THE LOCATION:

  • Hoprich is a baroque site of a former parish and parish yard in Martínkovice in the Broumov region, a few hundred meters from the Czech-Polish border. Hoprich is a place for independent culture and community activities, offering a year-round cultural, artistic and educational programme thanks to collaborations with other partners. This place is fundamentally open to co-creation by visiting artists as well as long-term and temporary residents of the region.
  • The site is undergoing a gradual self-help reconstruction with respect for traditional building methods and materials, but also for the contemporary world. For the time being, the venue is suitable for individuals or small groups. The renovated parish building includes two residences, one of which functions as a community reading room outside of the residency.

STUDIOS / REHEARSAL ROOMS:

  • In the parish building is a reading room, a makerspace (25m2) and a darkroom.
  • Furthermore, in the grounds, which have a total area of 4000m2, there is an open barn (25mx12m, 300m2) that can be converted into an outdoor gym, dance studio or performance and concert stage. There is a private enclosed garden and the whole site flows naturally into the forest.
  • The venues can be partially adapted to the specific requirements of interested of residents.

ACCOMMODATION:

  • Two fully equipped residential apartments are available on the ground floor of the parish. The first one is suitable for one resident (or a couple) and includes a small kitchenette and a bathroom with toilet.
  • The second has a capacity of four beds – one double bed and a double sofa bed, and includes a kitchenette and bathroom with toilet.
  • In the summer months you can also use accommodation in other parts of the complex in a sleeping bag or tent.

SERVICES:

  • Additional services are specified by specific agreement.
  • Basic technical equipment is available either on site or can be rented from friendly equipment and service providers.
  • The residential space includes a fully equipped makerspace and darkroom including all necessary equipment.
  • The managers of the residential building have experience in arts and community production as well as craft construction, and can work with them on specific projects upon agreement.
  • The benefit is strong networking with other organisations and people in the region with whom you can also agree on specific projects.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • The area is a protected monument and lies within the territory of the protected landscape area, which results in specifics mainly for the implementation of artistic interventions.
  • It’s a place where locals meet artistic residents and together they create the shape of the place and the programme.
  • The managers of the residences, Anna and Adam, live on site. They are open-minded and sensitive and can be consulted on many things.
