NEW WAYS: PLUM YARD

Švestkový Dvůr/Plum Yard is opening a call for artistic residencies within the project NEW WAYS 2024.

This year, the NEW WAYS 2024 project focuses on finding new, innovative ways of sharing and delivering artistic performances and cultural experiences to the audience.

The Plum Yard opens up a platform for the submission of projects whose theme and chosen form of presentation depends entirely on the artists themselves and their chosen method of work. This year’s theme remains the search for authentic responses by artists to questions that resonate in the independent art world.

How and with what to reach the audience? Is my artistic statement harmonious in the public space? Where to meet and in what form and environment (theatre hall, open air, immersive theatre, site-specific…) How much do I involve the audience in the performance? Where is the line between sharing with the audience and manipulating it? These and similar questions will be the main priority for those interested in co-producing at Plum Yard in 2024.

We are looking for projects with a primary focus on the practical exploration or development of new possibilities for sharing performance art with the audience (including the use of modern technologies). We offer facilities, equipment and spatial possibilities for creation.

Residencies lasting 7-10 days (September-November) are intended for theatre and dance groups from the Czech Republic and abroad. The result of the residency is a public presentation at the end of the stay in the premises of the Plum Yard, either in the form of a live performance, online or a combination of both.

The selection of the projects will take place in the first half of June by an artistic board composed of the Plum Yard team and experts in the field.

WE OFFER:

  • 2 separate residencies: one for theatre, one for dance
  • each creative stay lasting 7-10 days (from the September to November) in the premises of the Plum Yard
  • technical equipment and support for the duration of the residency
  • production support
  • accommodation
  • contribution to the creation of the production and public presentation in the amount of 20 000 CZK per group

Residents will need to provide and pay for their own food.

Švestkový Dvůr/Plum Yard was established in 2013 and has been providing cultural, educational and community activities in the rural area since 2015. The organization’s activities are defined by 4 main areas of focus in its work: artist facilities, visiting artist program, residencies and community projects.

The residency program offers to individuals or whole groups from the Czech Republic and abroad the possibility of short-term or long-term stays focused on research, creation, development or completion of an artistic project in a space with accommodation, kitchen, technically equipped hall, rehearsal room, studios and workshops for the production of scenography. The projects that are created during the residencies are then usually part of the programme offered by Švestkový Dvůr/Plum Yard.

The residency program at Švestkový Dvůr/Plum Yard in 2024 has been financially supported by Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, State Fund for Culture of the Czech Republic, South Bohemia Region, realized with the financial support by EU within NextGeneration EU, National Recovery Plan and Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
