FIRST BASE: PLUM YARD

Švestkový Dvůr/Plum Yard is opening a call for artistic residencies within the project FIRST BASE 2024.

The FIRST BASE project focuses on supporting the creation of young theatre makers who work with material and puppets. This programme encourages young artists to reflect practically on the question of what role does the connection between the human body and the materiál or object plays in artistic expresion. How their “coexistence” can underline, capture and pass on to the viewer what words and movement cannot do on their own.

Švestkový Dvůr/Plum Yard will provide artists with space to practically search and experiment with material and its subsequent use in the creation of an author’s theatre performance.

Residencies lasting 7-10 days (September-December) are aimed at emerging artists or artist groups. The results of the creative process will be presented in a public presentation before the end of 2024 at the Plum Yard upon agreement with the artists.

The selection of the project will take place in the first half of June by an artistic board composed of the Plum Yard team and experts in the field.

Švestkový Dvůr/Plum Yard was established in 2013 and has been providing cultural, educational and community activities in the rural area since 2015. The organization’s activities are defined by 4 main areas of focus in its work: artist facilities, visiting artist program, residencies and community projects.

The residency program offers to individuals or whole groups from the Czech Republic and abroad the possibility of short-term or long-term stays focused on research, creation, development or completion of an artistic project in a space with accommodation, kitchen, technically equipped hall, rehearsal room, studios and workshops for the production of scenography. The projects that are created during the residencies are then usually part of the programme offered by Švestkový Dvůr/Plum Yard.

The residency program at Švestkový Dvůr/Plum Yard in 2024 has been financially supported by Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, State Fund for Culture of the Czech Republic, South Bohemia Region, realized with the financial support by EU within NextGeneration EU, National Recovery Plan and Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
